Three Editions
Please note there are 3 editions of English Conversation 1.
The 1st edition was published in 2019. Each lesson is 2 pages of A4.
The 2nd edition was published in 2023. Each lesson is 2 pages of A4. The layout is simpler and more concise than the 3rd edition. It is aimed at people who want to have all the lesson material on 2 pages of A4 and keep unit costs down for the paperback version or printing/copying of the PDF version.. The 2nd edition is easier to photocopy or print out than the 3rd edition.
The 3rd edition was published in 2023. Each lesson is 3 pages of A4. The layout is more spaced out, colourful and with more images. The speaking drills are made easier to understand. The textbook looks more polished, but unit costs per paperback and printing out are more expensive.
The 2nd and 3rd edition have the same lesson content. The layout is the only difference. A few lessons have been updated and changed from the 1st edition following teacher feedback, but 80% of the lesson content is the same.
There is a teacher book and a student book. The teacher book for the 2nd and 3rd editions has a guide for each lesson and advice at the end on how to use the book. The student book is without that part. That is the only difference. The teaching material is all the same.

Over 20 years living and working in Japan as an English teacher, a veteran with experience in almost all the different ways it can be taught.
I came to Japan thinking it would be for 1 year, but it is such a wonderful place, much like Urashima Taro in Ryūgū-jō, I now never want to leave.
I have spent time at major and minor Eikaiwa companies, public elementary schools, junior high schools, crams school jukus, private lessons, business classes. summer camps. lifelong learning volunteer classes, kindergartens, special needs classes, online classes, translation, interpreting, transcription, English media production, training, curriculum building, etc. I have been there, done that, got the T-shirt and then made my own textbook and website to go with it.
There are a lot of good textbooks out there, but I never found one that fit the enjoyable eikaiwa lesson atmosphere in Japan right. I found myself always editing and creating my own lessons, until eventually I had enough to make several textbooks. I have chosen the best ones to use in this textbook series. I hope you can also enjoy teaching with them.
